What is MyMedicare?
MyMedicare is a voluntary registration for practices, providers and patients. The system is based on a dual consent process where both the practice and the patient need to consent. It allows individuals to choose their preferred general practitioner and healthcare team.
The MyMedicare system is designed to provide continuity of care, improve healthcare delivery and patient experiences, supporting patient-centered care and reducing hospitalisation.
Patient registration for MyMedicare is available from 1 October 2023.
Patients can register in their Medicare Online Services (Medicare Online Account or the Express Plus Medicare mobile application and the practice can accept or decline the registration form. Patients can fill out a registration form at the practice and sign the form for consent, the practice will enter the patient’s registration details into the MyMedicare system to complete registration.
By registering with MyMedicare, patients and practices can access a range of benefits, including longer MBS funded telephone calls and tailored care for complex chronic diseases. It will be integrated with the My Health Record, facilitating effective communication and collaboration among healthcare providers. More information about regular patients makes it easier to tailor services to fit patient’s needs.
